Malayalam cinema fans have another major OTT release to look forward to as Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa is set to make its digital debut after its theatrical run. Directed by Vysakh, the action-crime thriller is reportedly scheduled to begin streaming from October 9, 2026. Reports indicate that Amazon Prime Video is among the key streaming destinations, while additional regional platforms have also been linked to the digital rollout.
Khalifa OTT Release Date
Khalifa arrived in theatres on August 20, 2026, as an Onam release. The film generated considerable attention before release because of its combination of Prithviraj, director Vysakh and a strong supporting cast.
The reported OTT premiere date is October 9. The movie is expected to be available with dubbed versions in languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, making it accessible to a much wider audience beyond Kerala.
However, viewers should check the respective streaming service on release day because platform availability can vary by territory and language.
What Is Khalifa About?
Prithviraj plays Aamir Ali, a character connected to a powerful family legacy and the world of gold smuggling. The story combines crime, revenge, family history and power struggles, creating a larger-than-life action backdrop.
The film is written by Jinu V. Abraham, who has previously worked with Prithviraj on projects including Adam Joan and Kaduva. The screenplay explores the consequences of a criminal legacy and the conflicts that emerge when family history and ambition collide.
Mohanlal’s Special Appearance
One of the biggest attractions for Malayalam cinema fans is Mohanlal’s appearance in the film. He plays Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, a character connected to Aamir Ali’s family history.
Mohanlal’s presence generated significant curiosity even before the theatrical release. Reports have also indicated that the larger Khalifa story is planned as a franchise, with Mohanlal expected to have a much bigger role in the subsequent chapter.
The cast also includes Neil Nitin Mukesh, Malavika Sharma, Indrans, Shammi Thilakan, Renji Panicker and Mohini, among others.
Why the OTT Release Matters
The digital release gives Khalifa an opportunity to reach viewers who missed its theatrical run. The film also crossed the ₹50 crore worldwide gross milestone during its theatrical journey, according to a report citing the makers’ announcement.
With its combination of action, gold-smuggling drama, family legacy and major Malayalam stars, Khalifa’s OTT premiere is likely to attract strong interest among South Indian movie audiences.
For viewers waiting to watch the Prithviraj-starrer from home, October 9 is the date to keep in mind, subject to the final platform confirmation in their region.
