The story centers around two friends, Subbaraju and Krishna Murthy, from the village of Atreyapuram. Both men work for the same political party. One night, Subbaraju's pregnant wife goes into labor. Desperate to get her to a hospital, Subbaraju's brother tries to arrange a taxi. However, due to heavy rain and flooding, they are unable to find transportation. As a last resort, his brother arranges for a midwife. Sadly, the baby is stillborn, leaving Subbaraju devastated. He places the lifeless child on a table and goes to attend to his wife, whose condition has significantly worsened.
