Biography

Sunny Deol, born Ajay Singh Deol on October 19, 1956, in Sahnewal, Punjab, is a celebrated Indian actor, director, producer, and politician. He is the eldest son of legendary actor Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur, and belongs to the prominent Deol family of Bollywood. Sunny studied acting at the Old World Theatre in Birmingham, England, before making his Bollywood debut in the romantic drama Betaab (1983), which was a major commercial success.

Known for his intense performances and action-packed roles, Sunny gained widespread recognition with films like Arjun (1985), Ghayal (1990), and Damini (1993). His portrayal of a boxer in Ghayal earned him the National Film Award and Filmfare Award for Best Actor, while his role as a lawyer in Damini won him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Sunny’s iconic dialogue delivery and powerful screen presence have made him a favorite among audiences.

Sunny achieved massive commercial success with films like Border (1997) and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), the latter becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of its time. He later reprised his role in Gadar 2 (2023), marking a successful comeback.
Apart from acting, Sunny ventured into politics and served as a Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Punjab, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party from 2019 to 2024. With a career spanning over four decades, Sunny Deol remains an enduring icon in Indian cinema, celebrated for his versatility and dedication to the craft.
