Biography

Sharmila Tagore is an Indian film actress known for her work in Hindi and Bengali cinema. She was born on December 8, 1944, in Hyderabad, India. Tagore made her acting debut in Satyajit Ray's Bengali film "Apur Sansar" (The World of Apu) in 1959, and later transitioned to Hindi cinema with the film "Kashmir Ki Kali" in 1964, opposite Shammi Kapoor.

Throughout her career, Sharmila Tagore has been acclaimed for her performances in various films, including "Aradhana," "Amar Prem," and "Mausam." She has won several awards, including the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the Bengali film "Dekha" in 2001.

Aside from her acting career, Tagore has been involved in social and philanthropic activities. She also served as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification and was appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2005.

Sharmila Tagore comes from a distinguished family; she is the daughter of Gitindranath Tagore, a distant relative of the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, and her husband is Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the former captain of the Indian cricket team.
