Sharib Hashmi was born on January 25, 1976, in Malad, Mumbai, into a middle-class family. His father, Z.A. Johar, was a film journalist who wrote for the iconic film magazine Mayapuri.

Before pursuing acting, Sharib worked as an assistant director for the 1999 film Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain, starring Govinda and Urmila Matondkar.

He left his private job to follow his passion for acting, even working in two films while still employed, showcasing his determination to succeed in the industry.

Sharib’s wife, Nasreen Hashmi, made significant sacrifices to support his dreams, including selling her jewelry and other assets during challenging times.

His debut film was the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire (2008), where he played a minor role, marking his entry into the global film industry.
