Shabana Azmi
Biography
Shabana Azmi is an Indian actress who has worked in film, television, and theater. She is known for her portrayals of unconventional female characters in various genres. She has won five National Film Awards, six Filmfare Awards, and several international accolades. Azmi is the only Indian actress to win four National Awards, the Indian equivalent of an Oscar.
Azmi was born in Hyderabad, India in 1950. She has worked with Mrinal Sen, Satyajit Ray, Shyam Benegal, and Gautan Ghose. She has been married to Javed Akhtar since 1984.
Azmi's work includes over 160 films, mostly in independent and neorealist parallel cinema, as well as mainstream films and international projects. Some of her films include Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Ghoomer, and What's Love Got to Do with It?. Her songs include "Aawargi Hamari", "Jingle Bodmas", and "Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho".
