Biography
Rupali Ganguly, an Indian television and theatre actress, is widely recognized for her versatile performances in the Hindi television industry. Born on April 5, 1977, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, she hails from a Bengali Hindu family. Her father, Anil Ganguly, was a renowned film director, and her brother, Vijay Ganguly, is a choreographer.
Rupali made her acting debut at the tender age of seven in her father’s film “Saaheb” (1985). She later ventured into television, where she gained widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Dr. Simran Chopra in the medical drama series “Sanjivani: A Medical Boon” (2003-2005). However, it was her iconic role as Manisha “Monisha” Singh Sarabhai in the cult sitcom “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai” (2004-2006) that catapulted her to fame. Monisha, a middle-class young woman navigating the complexities of a high-society lifestyle in Cuffe Parade, became an endearing character for viewers.
In 2006, Rupali participated in the inaugural season of the reality show “Bigg Boss”. She continued to make her mark in the television industry, portraying characters like Sujata in “Ek Packet Umeed” (2008) and Pinky Khanna Ahuja in “Parvarrish – Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi” (2011-2013). After a seven-year hiatus from acting, she returned to the small screen with the lead role of “Anupamaa” in the drama series of the same name (2020-present).
Beyond television, Rupali has also been associated with Hindi theatre plays, including “Oye Ki Girl Hain,” “Selfie,” and “Patte Khul Gaye.” Her digital debut came in 2022 with the prequel web series “Anupama: Namaste America,” which premiered on Disney+ Hotstar.
