Dinesh Thakkar, founder, chairman and managing director of Angel One, has made headlines after agreeing to buy an entire luxury residential tower in Mumbai’s Juhu for approximately ₹711 crore. The deal involves a sea-facing property at Embassy Developments’ Embassy Terrazza project on Juhu Tara Road.
The transaction is notable not only for its size but also because Thakkar is purchasing an entire residential tower, rather than an individual apartment. Embassy Developments has described the transaction as the largest single residential unit transaction in the country.
What Does the ₹711 Crore Property Include?
The property comprises a ground-plus-seven-storey (G+7) tower with a RERA carpet area of approximately 63,000 square feet. Reports describe it as a sea-facing luxury residence designed to provide privacy and expansive views.
The tower is part of Embassy Terrazza, an ultra-luxury residential development in one of Mumbai’s premium neighbourhoods. The project is expected to include three-, four- and five-bedroom residences, with possession of the development reported for 2029.
Reports state that Thakkar plans to use the tower as his family home. The property has reportedly been named “Angelus.”
Who Is Dinesh Thakkar?
Thakkar was born in Mulund, Mumbai, and comes from a family involved in the textile trading business. Unlike the conventional corporate career path, he left formal education after completing Class 12 and subsequently became involved in business.
He later entered the stock market and eventually moved into stockbroking. In 1996, he founded the business that became Angel One. The company initially operated as a traditional brokerage before undergoing a major digital transformation and expanding its retail investor base.
From Stockbroking to a ₹711 Crore Property Deal
Thakkar’s business journey has included periods of financial difficulty. Reports note that he experienced losses during the early stages of his market career and was also affected by the 1992 Harshad Mehta securities scam. He subsequently continued building his brokerage business.
Angel One later expanded significantly as India’s retail investment ecosystem became increasingly digital. Thakkar’s latest real-estate purchase places him among the business personalities associated with India’s ultra-luxury residential market.
The ₹711-crore transaction also highlights the scale of premium property deals in Mumbai, where limited inventory in established neighbourhoods such as Juhu can command exceptionally high values.
The deal was announced through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Embassy Developments and Thakkar. As the transaction progresses, further details about the property’s final registration and completion are expected to emerge
