YouTube Music has begun rolling out new labels that identify songs created primarily with generative artificial intelligence. The label is designed to help listeners understand when AI played a significant role in producing a track, including the composition or vocals.

    Where the AI label appears

According to YouTube’s announcement, the label appears directly on the YouTube Music player page for eligible tracks. Tapping it opens additional information about AI’s involvement. YouTube says the labels will also expand to the main YouTube app, making disclosure easier to find across the platform.

    How tracks are identified

YouTube is working with music partners and using its own detection tools to identify qualifying AI-generated songs. Music partners are expected to disclose relevant use of generative AI when uploading content. The system is focused on tracks where AI played a significant role, rather than treating every use of a digital production tool as fully AI-generated music.

The rollout reflects a wider challenge for streaming services: AI tools can now produce lyrics, compositions, instrumental arrangements and synthetic vocals at scale. Listeners may want to know whether a song features a human performance, AI-generated elements or a combination of both. Clear labels can help provide context, although they do not necessarily explain every step in a production process.

What the change means for artists and listeners

For artists and rights holders, disclosure requirements can become part of the publishing workflow. For listeners, the label provides another piece of information when deciding what to stream. It does not automatically indicate that a song is low quality or that AI was used improperly; it is intended as a transparency signal.

YouTube says the feature is rolling out rather than necessarily appearing on every track immediately. Label visibility may differ as the system expands and more music partners adopt the disclosure process.

    How to see it

Update the YouTube Music app and check the player page on tracks where the label is available. Tap the label to read further details about the role of AI in the track. Availability and wording may change as the rollout continues.
