    Biography

Rakul Preet Singh is a popular Indian actress and model who has established a successful career across Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada cinema. Born on October 10, 1990, in New Delhi, she grew up in a Punjabi Sikh family. Her father, Kulwinder Singh, served as an officer in the Indian Army, while her mother is Rajender Kaur. Her younger brother, Aman Preet Singh, has also pursued a career in acting.

Rakul completed her schooling at Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, in New Delhi. She later attended Jesus and Mary College, part of the University of Delhi, where she studied mathematics. While she was still in college, Rakul began modelling and participated in various modelling assignments and competitions. Her early exposure to the fashion industry eventually helped her transition into acting.

Rakul made her acting debut in the Kannada film Gilli in 2009. Although it was a relatively small beginning, she continued to pursue opportunities in South Indian cinema. Her breakthrough in Telugu cinema came with Venkatadri Express in 2013. The film became a commercial success and earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu nomination.

She subsequently appeared in several successful Telugu films, including Loukyam, Current Theega, Nannaku Prematho, Sarrainodu, Dhruva, Winner, Rarandoi Veduka Chudham and Spyder. Her performances opposite some of the biggest stars of South Indian cinema helped establish her as a leading actress.

Rakul expanded her career into Hindi cinema with Yaariyan in 2014. She later appeared in films including Aiyaary, De De Pyaar De, Marjaavaan, Sardar Ka Grandson, Attack, Runway 34, Doctor G, Thank God and Chhatriwali. Her performance in Chhatriwali, in which she portrayed a young woman working to create awareness about sexual health and safe sex, demonstrated her willingness to take on socially relevant subjects.

Her South Indian film career also continued with projects such as Ayalaan, which became an important Tamil release in her filmography. In Hindi cinema, De De Pyaar De 2 was released in November 2025, continuing the story of her popular character from the first film.

Rakul married actor and film producer Jackky Bhagnani on February 21, 2024, in Goa. The couple had previously made their relationship public in 2021. Rakul has also developed interests outside acting, particularly in fitness and business, and has been associated with F45 Training gym franchises.

In 2026, Rakul continued to expand her film career. She is part of Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana: Part I, portraying Surpanakha. She began dubbing for the film in September 2026 ahead of its scheduled Diwali 2026 release.
