Yamaha YZF-R2 Launch in India
Yamaha has officially launched the all-new YZF-R2 in India, marking the global debut of the new R-Series motorcycle. The bike enters the 200cc premium supersport segment and sits above the Yamaha R15 in the company’s Indian line-up. The YZF-R2 starts at ₹2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
India is the first market globally to receive the YZF-R2, which has been developed on an all-new platform specifically targeting riders looking for a combination of performance, technology and everyday usability.
Yamaha YZF-R2 Price and Variants
The motorcycle is available in three variants. The standard YZF-R2 costs ₹2,30,500, while the version equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter is priced at ₹2,39,500. The top-spec YZF-R2 M costs ₹2,53,000. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
The standard model is offered in Metallic Black and Dark Bluish Gray. The quickshifter version gets Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue, while the R2 M is available in Metallic Gray.
Yamaha R2 Delivery Date
Yamaha has confirmed that the YZF-R2 will be available through its Blue Square dealerships from mid-September 2026. The company has also listed booking options for the R2 and R2M on its official online motorcycle store.
This means customers can expect deliveries to begin around the middle of September, subject to dealership availability and location.
204cc Engine and Performance
The Yamaha YZF-R2 is powered by a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, single-cylinder, four-valve engine. It produces 26.5 PS of maximum power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and Assist & Slipper Clutch.
The motorcycle weighs just 149kg, with Yamaha positioning it as the lightest motorcycle in its segment. Its new steel-tube diamond frame has been developed to deliver responsive handling and stability.
Features and Technology
The YZF-R2 gets a 5-inch full-colour TFT display, traction control, dual-channel ABS and Yamaha Ride Control with three riding modes — Street, Sport and Rain. The motorcycle also uses a 37mm upside-down front fork and rear monoshock.
The higher variants add Yamaha’s third-generation bi-directional quickshifter. The R2 M further gets adjustable suspension, adjustable levers and a Smart Key System.
Yamaha R2 Rivals
The YZF-R2 enters a competitive segment and will rival motorcycles such as the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR 210. Its combination of a 204cc engine, 149kg kerb weight and electronics package gives Yamaha a new offering between the R15 and larger-capacity sportbikes.
With its global debut in India, mid-September deliveries and starting price of ₹2.30 lakh, the Yamaha YZF-R2 adds a new option for Indian riders looking to move up from entry-level supersport motorcycles.
