Upasana Kamineni Konidela has taken charge as Director – Projects at Apollo Hospitals, taking on a new leadership responsibility as the healthcare group moves ahead with an ambitious ₹8,600-crore expansion programme across India. In her new role, she will work with Apollo’s leadership, clinical teams and project partners on planning and delivering hospital projects nationwide.
Upasana Konidela’s New Role at Apollo Hospitals
As Director – Projects, Upasana will oversee projects involving new hospitals, expansions and upgrades of existing facilities. Her responsibilities will also include maintaining consistent design standards across Apollo’s patient-facing spaces.
A key focus will be improving the experience of patients and their families. This includes clearer signage and wayfinding, easier navigation within hospitals, efficient clinical spaces and more comfortable environments. She will also be involved in project processes, reporting and coordination from the design stage through the opening of facilities.
The appointment comes as Apollo expands its healthcare infrastructure across several established and emerging markets in India.
Apollo Hospitals’ ₹8,600 Crore Expansion Plan
Apollo’s current expansion programme has an estimated total project cost of approximately ₹8,600 crore. This includes around ₹1,565 crore in listed brownfield expansion projects involving existing facilities. The broader programme combines capacity expansion in established markets with new hospitals and facilities in growing urban centres.
Published plans identify projects and capacity additions across cities and regions including Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru, along with other growing markets such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore, Guwahati and Ranchi.
The expansion is intended to increase Apollo’s healthcare capacity while developing facilities designed around patient and clinical requirements.
Upasana’s Vision for Apollo’s Healthcare Infrastructure
Speaking about her new responsibility, Upasana linked her role to the founding vision of Apollo Hospitals and her grandfather, Dr Prathap C. Reddy, who established Apollo Hospitals in 1983.
She said her responsibility was to carry forward the belief that world-class healthcare should be accessible to people in India and bring that philosophy into the hospitals being built and improved.
Upasana has also emphasised the importance of hospital design in healthcare delivery. According to her, well-designed hospitals should make it easier for patients to navigate facilities, support families and provide doctors and healthcare teams with functional spaces to deliver care.
Upasana Kamineni’s Association With Apollo
Upasana has been associated with Apollo’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and currently serves as Vice Chairperson of CSR at the Apollo Hospitals Group. She is also the founder and managing director of URLife, a digital wellness and corporate healthcare platform.
Her appointment as Director – Projects places her in a role focused specifically on the group’s physical healthcare infrastructure at a time when Apollo is undertaking a major nationwide expansion.
With new facilities, brownfield expansions and upgrades planned across multiple markets, Upasana’s role will involve coordinating design, development and project delivery while keeping patient experience and clinical functionality central to the expansion programme.
