Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh has addressed recent reports linking her to Income Tax Department searches and strongly rejected claims that she was involved in financial irregularities. The actress said the search was “not pertaining to me” and described reports connecting her with alleged illegal foreign remittances and benami properties as false and speculative.
Rakul issued the clarification on social media after reports surfaced about Income Tax searches at multiple locations associated with people in the film industry. According to reports, the searches conducted in Mumbai were linked to an investigation into suspected financial irregularities and alleged overseas movement of funds connected with film projects.

Addressing the controversy directly, Rakul said that the Income Tax search had nothing to do with her. She criticised sections of the media for publishing information without adequately verifying the facts.
The actress also rejected allegations that she was involved in illegal foreign remittances either personally or on behalf of a production house. She further denied holding any benami property in India or abroad.
Rakul said she has been paying her taxes since the age of 20 and described herself as a law-abiding citizen. She also stated that she has never accepted expensive property as a gift.
‘No Godfather’ in Bollywood
In her statement, Rakul also spoke about her journey in the entertainment industry. She highlighted her Armed Forces family background and said she did not have a godfather in the film industry.
According to the actress, she built her career through hard work rather than industry connections. Her statement appeared to be aimed not only at addressing the immediate controversy but also at setting the record straight about her professional and personal background.
Rakul Urges Media to Retract Reports
Rakul has called upon publications that directly linked her to the alleged financial investigation to retract what she described as false, malicious and speculative reports.
She acknowledged that media organisations operate in a competitive environment but argued that commercial pressures should not come at the expense of accuracy or an individual’s reputation.
The controversy comes amid reported Income Tax searches involving film producers and other locations in Mumbai. However, Rakul’s latest statement makes clear that her position is that she was not the subject of the search.
On the professional front, Rakul continues to be associated with major Bollywood projects, including Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, in which she is set to portray Shurpanakha.
