As of   2020, India's population stands at over   1.4 billion   (120 crore) people. Each month, the country gains roughly   1 million   (10 lakh) inhabitants. Hindus constitute 79.8%   of the population, while Muslims account for 14.2%  .

Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains make up most of the remaining   6%. India's population growth has been significant, tripling since the 1951 census. By 2030, it is projected to surpass China as the world's most populous country.
