Mumbai Records Hottest Day of 2025: IMD Issues Heat Advisory

Mumbai recently experienced its hottest day of the year, with temperatures soaring to 39.2°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Colaba observatory recorded 38°C, while Thane and Palghar faced even higher temperatures at 39.7°C and 40°C, respectively. Although the heatwave warning issued for March 9-11 has not been extended, the IMD predicts that temperatures will remain between 36°C and 38°C in the coming days.

The sweltering heat has led to a surge in power consumption as residents increasingly rely on air conditioners and coolers to combat the oppressive conditions. Experts have emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and taking precautions against heat stress, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.

The IMD attributes the temperature spike to strong easterly winds and a delayed sea breeze, which have intensified the heat and humidity. While the city awaits relief, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued guidelines to help residents cope. These include drinking plenty of water, wearing light cotton clothing, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.

As Mumbai grapples with these extreme conditions, residents are urged to remain vigilant and prioritize their health and safety. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
