The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high heatwave alert for Mumbai, warning residents of soaring temperatures over the next three days from February 25 to 27, 2025. With temperatures expected to reach between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the seasonal average, the IMD has issued a "yellow warning" for Mumbai and neighboring districts, including Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.
Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this extreme weather condition. The IMD recommends staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and consuming hydrating beverages such as coconut water and buttermilk. Wearing lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing can help stay cool, while avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during peak hours between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, is crucial to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The IMD has highlighted the potential health risks associated with the heatwave, including heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are particularly at risk. Residents are encouraged to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, or dehydration. As Mumbai braces for the intense heatwave, it is essential for everyone to take the necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy.
