King of Bhutan and Uttar Pradesh CM Take Holy Dip at Sangam Ghat

Prayagraj, February 4, 2025 – In a significant and symbolic gesture, Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a holy dip at the revered Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj on Tuesday. This event marked a moment of spiritual unity and cultural exchange during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings globally.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck arrived in Lucknow on Monday and was warmly welcomed by CM Yogi Adityanath at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. Traditional folk performances marked his arrival, and the Chief Minister presented him with a bouquet of flowers. The two dignitaries then traveled to Prayagraj, where they participated in the sacred ritual of taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.

Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh ministers and spiritual leaders, the King and the Chief Minister performed rituals and offered prayers at the sacred site. The King also visited other significant spiritual sites in Prayagraj, including Akshayavat (the eternal banyan tree) and Hanuman Mandir. The visit underscored the deep-rooted spiritual traditions and the global significance of the Maha Kumbh Mela.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, 2025, has already attracted millions of devotees from across the country and around the world. The event is expected to set new records for attendance and participation, with over 37.50 crore devotees having taken the holy bath since its commencement.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's presence at the Maha Kumbh Mela highlights the strong cultural and spiritual ties between Bhutan and India. The visit also serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
