Infosys, the global IT services giant, has laid off approximately 700 freshers from its Mysuru campus. According to reports from the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), these freshers, who were onboarded in October 2024, were let go after failing to clear internal assessments on three separate occasions.
NITES has condemned the move as "shocking and unethical," alleging that the company deployed security personnel to intimidate employees during the termination process. In contrast, Infosys has defended its decision, stating that the layoffs were necessary to maintain high performance standards and that such assessments have been a long-standing practice for over two decades.
The union has raised concerns over the abrupt nature of the terminations and the impact on the affected employees. NITES plans to file a formal complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, seeking urgent intervention and strict action against Infosys.
