India Takes 5 Strict Measures Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

In response to the devastating Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives, India has announced a series of strong measures aimed at addressing cross-border terrorism and ensuring national security. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri outlined the decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

1. Indus Waters Treaty Suspended
The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 has been held in abeyance with immediate effect. This suspension will remain until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.

2. Closure of Attari Checkpost
The integrated checkpost at Attari has been closed with immediate effect. Pakistani nationals who have crossed over with valid endorsements may return through this route before May 1, 2025.

3. Visa Restrictions for Pakistani Nationals
Pakistani nationals will no longer be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES). All previously issued SVES visas are deemed cancelled, and Pakistani nationals currently in India under this scheme have been given 48 hours to leave the country.

4. Diplomatic Expulsions
The Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata. They have been given one week to leave India.

5. Withdrawal of Indian Advisors
India will withdraw its own Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These posts in the respective High Commissions are deemed annulled.

These measures reflect India’s firm stance against terrorism and its commitment to holding perpetrators and their sponsors accountable. The CCS has emphasized the importance of justice for the victims and the need for collective efforts to prevent such tragedies in the future.
