Campaign Early Access for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now live, giving eligible players an opportunity to begin the game’s story before the full launch on October 23. Activision confirmed the start of access in an official announcement dated October 16. Players who digitally preorder or pre-purchase the game can access the campaign during the early-access period.

The campaign features 16 missions set across several locations, including the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York and Mumbai. The story follows Private Park Hyun Jun and his squad as they respond to a large-scale invasion, while Captain John Price pursues the person believed to be directing the wider conflict. The new chapter combines military action with a globe-spanning narrative, continuing the series’ focus on large threats and personal rivalries.

    How to access the campaign

According to the official Call of Duty blog, the early-access benefit applies to digital Standard Edition and Vault Edition purchases on supported platforms. The announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Availability can differ by store and platform, so players should check the relevant storefront and confirm that the order is a qualifying digital purchase before expecting campaign access.

Early access is limited to the campaign; it is not the same as the game’s full release. Activision says the campaign window runs up to the official launch date. The company also announced DMZ early access beginning October 20, followed by the full Modern Warfare 4 launch on October 23. Players should check official channels for any last-minute timing or platform-specific changes.

    Campaign completion rewards

Completing missions also unlocks rewards that can be used in other modes when they become available. The official list includes operator skins or operators, calling cards, loading-screen items and double-XP tokens. These rewards are designed to connect campaign progress with the broader Modern Warfare experience, giving players reasons to explore the story rather than skipping directly to multiplayer.

For players returning after earlier titles, the publisher has also shared a story recap covering major narrative elements leading into the new campaign. That can help bring returning characters and conflicts back into focus. Newcomers may prefer to begin the campaign without spoilers, while returning players can use the recap to refresh details from previous releases.

What players should know before starting

Because early access involves a digital preorder, players should read the edition details, refund terms and platform requirements carefully. Storage needs, downloadable updates and online account requirements may affect how quickly the campaign can be started. Users who experience access errors should check the publisher’s support page and the store account associated with their purchase.

With the campaign now available ahead of the October 23 launch, the early-access period gives players several days to complete the narrative and explore unlocks before the wider release. The game’s official blog remains the most reliable place to check the latest availability and launch information.
