Jackie Shroff Biography
Jackie Shroff is an Indian actor whose career spans more than four decades across Hindi and regional cinema. Known for his distinctive voice, relaxed screen presence and ability to play both charismatic leads and rough-edged character roles, he became one of Hindi cinema’s most recognisable performers in the 1980s. His filmography includes romance, action, drama, comedy and supporting roles, and he has continued to work with filmmakers from different generations.
Born Jaikishan Kakubhai Shroff in Bombay, now Mumbai, he grew up in the Teen Batti neighbourhood. Before entering films, he worked in modelling and appeared in advertisements. His breakthrough came with Subhash Ghai’s Hero, which established him as a leading man and opened the door to a long career. He later appeared in films such as Teri Meherbaniyan, Karma, Parinda, Ram Lakhan, Tridev and Khalnayak. His performance in Parinda attracted particular critical recognition, demonstrating that he could deliver emotionally grounded work beyond mainstream action and romance.
As the industry changed, Jackie increasingly accepted supporting and character parts, often bringing warmth, humour or unpredictability to a role. He has worked in Hindi films as well as projects in Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and other languages. This willingness to move between leading and supporting roles helped him remain visible even as new stars entered the industry. He has also spoken publicly about nature and environmental concerns, and his easygoing manner has become part of his public image.
Jackie married Ayesha Dutt, who later became involved in film production and business. Their children, Tiger Shroff and Krishna Shroff, have also developed public careers. Jackie has generally spoken affectionately about his family while maintaining a busy professional schedule. His financial details are not publicly audited; net-worth figures published online should be treated as estimates rather than confirmed data.
His longevity comes from versatility and a willingness to accept varied work. From youthful leading roles to mature character performances, Jackie Shroff has remained a familiar presence in Indian cinema. His career illustrates how an actor can adapt to changing audience expectations without losing the distinctive personality that first made him popular.
