Renowned Kannada musician and drummer Deva, popularly known as the “Shivamani of Kannada,” has passed away at the age of 64. The veteran percussionist breathed his last on September 27, 2026, at his residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar (R.R. Nagar), Bengaluru, following prolonged health complications. His death has left the Kannada film and music fraternity mourning the loss of a distinctive rhythm artist.
Deva had been battling serious health issues in recent months. Earlier in 2026, reports said that his health had deteriorated considerably after he suffered complications from gangrene, which resulted in the amputation of his right leg. He was subsequently receiving treatment at home.
A Remarkable Journey in Kannada Music
Born and raised in Bengaluru, Deva’s journey in music was one of determination and talent. According to reports, he initially worked in a modest capacity at a studio before developing a deep interest in drums and percussion. His talent eventually earned him opportunities to work with some of the biggest names in the Kannada music industry.
Over the course of his career, Deva reportedly played drums for more than 800 films across multiple languages. He worked with celebrated composers including Ilaiyaraaja, Hamsalekha, Sadhu Kokila, Rajan-Nagendra, Upendra Kumar, Gurukiran and V. Manohar. His rhythms also featured in songs associated with legendary Kannada stars including Dr Rajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar.
