The Karnataka government has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish a ₹500 crore Film City in Mysuru, aiming to transform the state into a hub for film production and tourism. Announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the 2025 state budget, this project is set to be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with 150 acres of land already allocated in Immavu village near Nanjangud, Mysuru.
The proposed Film City will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including studios, theatres, a multiplex, theme parks, and luxury hotels. These amenities are designed to attract filmmakers from across the country and boost the local economy by creating over 25,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly. The project also aims to promote film tourism, drawing visitors to Mysuru and its surrounding areas.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Karnataka government to support the entertainment industry. Alongside the Film City, the government has introduced reforms such as granting the cinema sector industry status, capping movie ticket prices at ₹200, and launching a state-run OTT platform for Kannada films. These measures are expected to make cinema more accessible while fostering growth and innovation within the industry.
The Film City project reflects the government's commitment to enhancing Karnataka's cultural and economic assets. By providing world-class infrastructure and opportunities, the initiative is set to position Mysuru as a prominent destination for filmmakers and tourists alike, contributing to the state's overall development.
