Motorists waiting for the final link of Bengaluru’s Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) between Hoskote and the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border may be able to use part of the 21-kilometre stretch by December 2026. A report published on October 22 says the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning a phased opening, while construction of a key railway overbridge (ROB) is expected to continue until March 2027.

    Why the Hoskote–Hosur stretch matters

The STRR is designed to connect satellite towns and major highways around Bengaluru, helping through-traffic avoid travelling across the city’s busiest central corridors. The Hoskote-to-Hosur-border section is important for traffic moving towards eastern Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu. Once the relevant sections are operational, the route could provide another option for freight vehicles and other motorists travelling between regional highways.

What is the December opening plan?

According to the report, NHAI is considering a phased opening of the 21-km stretch rather than waiting for all associated works to finish. Diversions are expected near the railway overbridge being built at Lingadeeramallasandra, where the project crosses the Bengaluru–Chennai railway line. The reported plan includes launching a 59-metre girder for the carriageway carrying traffic from Hoskote towards Hosur.

The proposed timing remains a target, not a guarantee that the entire stretch will be available without restrictions. Final access arrangements, diversions and traffic rules depend on construction progress and approvals from the relevant authorities.

Why ROB work may continue until March 2027

Railway overbridges require coordination between highway construction teams and railway authorities. Work near active rail lines has to follow safety procedures, including arrangements for lifting and installing structural components. That can mean the road section becomes usable in stages even though some bridge-related works continue.

    What commuters should know

Drivers should follow official NHAI and traffic-police announcements before changing their routes. Temporary diversions can affect travel times, and navigation applications may not immediately reflect a newly opened segment. Heavy vehicles should pay particular attention to signed restrictions and approach roads near active construction zones.

The December date and March 2027 ROB completion timeline are based on reported project plans. InfoFlick will update this story if NHAI issues a formal opening notice or revised schedule.
