Sonika Gowda was originally known as Sonu Gowda, but she later adopted the name Sonika Gowda professionally. According to reports, she has roots in Kerala and was born and raised in Mumbai before spending many years in Bengaluru. Sonika completed a course in fashion designing and developed an interest in makeup and fashion from a young age. She also began learning Bharatanatyam while she was in school and completed senior-level training.

Sonika made her Kannada film debut with Shathaya Gathaya. She subsequently appeared in films including NaanE Raaja and Khushi Khushiyagi. She has also worked in Bhojpuri cinema, including projects such as Andaaz and Fight, according to reports.
Her modelling achievements include titles such as Miss Yuvrani, Miss Fashionista 2013, Face of Bengaluru, Miss Soundarya 2014, Bengaluru Super Model, Miss Kerala 2015 and Miss Catwalk.

Reports indicate that Sonika had received offers for earlier seasons of Bigg Boss Kannada but did not participate. She has now entered BBK 13 as a wild card contestant.
