Veteran actress Ambika has broken her silence over a police complaint filed by her sister and fellow actor Radha, amid an escalating family dispute involving high-value cheques and the ownership of ARS Garden. Ambika said she was deeply hurt by the matter reaching the police and maintained that, from her perspective, she is the one who has been wronged.
Radha recently approached the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner’s Office, naming Ambika and their brother Mallikarjuna Kunjan Nair in a complaint concerning several signed cheques. According to reports, Radha alleged that five old cheques were presented in Ambika’s name for amounts totalling around ₹46 crore. She said she had not authorised the transactions and requested the bank to stop payment. The allegations are subject to police investigation and have not been adjudicated.
Ambika Responds to Radha’s Complaint
Speaking about the dispute, Ambika questioned why Radha had filed a complaint against her. She said she found the development difficult to understand and claimed that she was actually the person who had been cheated.
Ambika also indicated that the property dispute is already before the legal system and that she could not publicly disclose every detail. She expressed disappointment that a disagreement within the family had reached the police and described the situation as emotionally painful.
ARS Garden Property Dispute
A major part of Ambika’s response concerned ARS Garden, a property that she described as deeply connected to her family and her life. She rejected claims circulating online that former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) had gifted the family 25 acres of land for free.
Ambika said the property was purchased using money earned by the family and described ARS Garden as the first property they bought. She also spoke emotionally about seeing the original ARS Garden name board removed and replaced.
According to Ambika, the property is currently involved in a legal dispute, which is why she has chosen not to discuss all aspects of the matter publicly.
A Family Dispute Turns Legal
The disagreement has brought attention to the relationship between two prominent sisters of South Indian cinema. Ambika and Radha have both had long careers across Tamil, Malayalam and other South Indian film industries and have appeared together in several films.
Radha’s complaint alleges that signed blank cheques kept at her Chennai residence were accessed and subsequently presented for encashment. She also raised concerns about access to property documents and valuables kept at the residence. Police are expected to examine the allegations and determine the circumstances surrounding the cheques.
For now, the dispute remains a matter of competing claims. Ambika has given her response, while Radha’s allegations remain under investigation. Any legal findings will depend on the evidence examined by the authorities and subsequent proceedings.
