Sportswear giant Adidas has begun reducing jobs at its India Technology Hub in Gurgaon, with reports indicating that around 300 to 350 employees could be affected. The reported cuts represent nearly half of the technology hub’s workforce of approximately 700 employees. Adidas confirmed that it is reducing roles within its India technology organisation but did not disclose the exact number of positions affected.

The workforce reduction was communicated to employees during a town hall meeting on September 15, 2026. According to reports citing people familiar with the matter, the affected positions include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers.

Reports indicate that employees affected by the restructuring have been divided into different groups. Some employees reportedly received exit letters immediately, while another group has been asked to remain with the company for a transition period and complete the handover of responsibilities.

According to the Economic Times, some employees in the second group are expected to continue until December 15, while also having an opportunity to explore other roles within Adidas.

    Why Is Adidas Cutting Jobs?

Adidas described the workforce reduction as a difficult decision linked to changes in its operating model and evolving business requirements.

In a statement reported by multiple news outlets, the company said the changes are intended to simplify parts of its organisation, strengthen critical capabilities and position the technology organisation for long-term growth. Adidas also said it remains committed to supporting affected employees with transition assistance.

The company has emphasised that India remains a strategically important market and that its Technology Hub continues to support growth, innovation and digital transformation.

    Adidas India Technology Hub

Adidas launched its India Technology Hub in 2021, with the centre designed to attract technology and engineering talent and support the company’s global products and digital operations. The reported restructuring comes about five years after the hub was established.

While reports initially suggested that nearly 350 employees could lose their jobs, the exact scale remains unclear. Reuters reported that Adidas said the reduction affected less than 20% of its India Technology organisation, highlighting a difference between the reported impact at the Gurgaon hub and the company’s broader India technology workforce.

The development comes amid continuing restructuring across parts of the global technology sector, with companies reassessing technology organisations, operating models and workforce requirements
