Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received a final two-week opportunity from the Supreme Court to deposit ₹2 crore in connection with multiple cheque-bounce cases involving a private firm. The court also extended his protection from surrender until October 5, 2026, when the matter will be heard again.
During Tuesday’s hearing, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana, expressed concern over Yadav’s previous failure to comply with court directions.
Supreme Court Gives Rajpal Yadav Two Weeks
Yadav’s lawyer sought two weeks to prepare a concrete proposal for clearing the outstanding amount. His counsel also assured the court that the actor would deposit at least ₹2 crore with the Supreme Court Registry.
The bench granted what it described as a last opportunity and directed Yadav to deposit the amount within two weeks. His exemption from surrender was continued until the next hearing on October 5. The court also directed him to surrender his passport.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice Surya Kant made a pointed remark about Yadav’s conduct, saying, “He is perfect at doing drama but not in this court.” The comment came in the context of the court’s concerns about earlier orders not being complied with.
What Is the Rajpal Yadav Cheque-Bounce Case?
The dispute dates back to 2010, when a Delhi-based company allegedly provided around ₹5 crore in financial assistance to Yadav for his directorial film Ata Pata Laapata. According to the complainant, an agreement was later reached under which Yadav, his wife and their company would repay the amount along with interest.
The complainant subsequently alleged that seven cheques issued by Yadav, each worth around ₹1.05 crore, were dishonoured. This led to multiple cheque-bounce proceedings.
In July 2026, the Delhi High Court upheld Yadav’s conviction and three-month prison sentence in the cases. The Supreme Court subsequently granted him conditional protection from surrender while considering his challenge.
October 5 Hearing
The Supreme Court has now given Yadav two weeks to deposit ₹2 crore and submit a concrete repayment proposal. His interim protection from surrender will continue until October 5, when the court is scheduled to consider the matter again.
The case remains ongoing, and the final outcome will depend on further proceedings before the Supreme Court.
