The Yamaha YZF-R2 has officially entered the Indian market, marking Yamaha’s debut in the 200cc motorcycle segment. The new supersport made its global debut in India on August 27, 2026, and deliveries began from mid-September through Yamaha Blue Square dealerships. Positioned above the popular R15, the R2 brings a larger engine, lightweight chassis and advanced electronics to the entry-level supersport category.

    Yamaha YZF-R2 Price in India

The Yamaha YZF-R2 is available in three variants. The base R2 is priced at ₹2.30 lakh, while the R2 with Quick Shifter costs ₹2.39 lakh. The top-spec R2 M is priced at ₹2.53 lakh, with all prices being ex-showroom Delhi.

On-road pricing varies depending on the city, registration charges, insurance and other costs. In Bengaluru, for example, the base variant is listed at around ₹2.90 lakh on-road, while the R2 M can cost around ₹3.17 lakh. Actual dealer pricing may vary.

    Yamaha YZF-R2 Test Rides

With deliveries underway, prospective buyers can experience the motorcycle through Yamaha’s Blue Square dealership network. Test-ride availability can vary by dealership and city, so customers should check with their nearest Yamaha dealer before visiting.

    Engine and Performance

The YZF-R2 gets an all-new 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, four-valve engine. It produces around 26.5 PS at 10,000rpm and 19.1Nm of torque at 8,000rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. The engine also uses semi-dry-sump lubrication and Yamaha’s electronically controlled throttle technology.

Weighing just 149kg, the R2 is designed around a lightweight steel-tube diamond frame. It gets 37mm upside-down front forks, a rear monoshock, 17-inch wheels and dual-channel ABS.

    Features and Variants

The motorcycle gets a 5-inch colour TFT display, traction control, Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) and three riding modes: Street, Sport and Rain. The middle variant adds a third-generation bi-directional quickshifter.

The R2 M adds adjustable suspension, adjustable brake and clutch levers, a Smart Key System, faux-suede seat and additional premium styling details.

Overall, the Yamaha YZF-R2 combines R-series styling, a 204cc performance-focused engine and modern electronics in a lightweight package, creating a new option for Indian buyers moving up from smaller-capacity motorcycles.
